ARTWORKS@THEDJD

The DJD Theater is proud to present the ArtWorks@TheDJD Series. This professional performance season is dedicated to presenting award-winning national and regional artists that reflect our community with diversity, equity, and inclusion at the forefront of our programming.

ArtWorks@TheDJD grew out of an experimental artist grant project undertaken during the COVID-19 pandemic. The inaugural digital series was a huge success. It provided commissioning grants to local artists and provided the community free access to the works during a time when most performing venues were closed.

This season features award-winning national theater and musical acts you won’t want to miss! Get your tickets today!

The New York Times, Miami Herald, and Jazz Times Magazine have compared powerhouse jazz vocalist Nicole Henry to Whitney Houston and Natalie Cole for her dynamic range, impeccable phrasing, and bluesy gospel style. Whether burning through a swing tune or gently caressing a ballad, Nicole truly makes each song uniquely her own and “aims right for the emotional center.” (Billboard)

The New York Times raved, “Every gesture and inflection conveyed confidence and mastery…I had the sense of being in the presence of a pop-soul superwoman.” Broadway World says, “So powerful is her charisma, so unique is her personality, so rich is her music, so abandoned is her joy that you can’t watch her without being drawn in.”

Her latest chart topping album, “Time to Love Again” features reimagined versions of jazz standards as well as soul, pop, and folk songs by masters like Anthony Newly, Stevie Wonder, Joan Armatrading, James Taylor, Rodger & Hart and Buffy St. Marie. Ms. Henry will tell real stories through peerless interpretations of songs from that CD release as well as music from her vast catalogue and repertoire. Expect to be transported and thoroughly entertained.

Tickets: $29-$45 + Fees

Cristal Laraé’s The Love Between Us explores the story of one woman’s profound love for her daughter and the inexplicable joy and soul-shattering heartbreak that comes along with loving a child she did not birth. Pieces from her past emerge as she navigates a life she is both grateful for and swore to never live.

This one-woman show peels back the layers to reveal the inner workings of a beautiful, complex, and often unexplored relationship. The Love Between Us is a story of family, identity, and of course, love.

It asks the age-old question, “What do you do when life doesn’t turn out the way you planned?” but with a twist…
